Position Summary
Join the Staples North American Delivery (NAD) Finance team to help drive Finance’s Analytical and Reporting capabilities to support Staples’ Go-To Market Strategy.  To achieve the alignment of reporting across the organization, this role is critical in identifying gaps, developing new solutions, and socializing them across the organization.  This individual will have to understand the underlying business reasons and processes to ensure that proposed solution will address all those needs.  This role will partner with the Business, IT department, and other Support Groups to achieve alignment and then help implement the solutions.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Understand existing business processes and their challenges to identify improvement opportunities across different data sources and systems.
  • Partner with teams within Finance, Pricing, Merchandising, and other departments to identify critical painpoints that could be solved with better data solutions.
  • Extract and analyze large sets of data (through utilizing Microsoft Office, SQL, and business intelligence tools) to validate accuracy of the reporting and identify issues.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand new data sources and set up processes that will facilitate proposed business solutions.
  • Develop data solutions that will run parallel and minimize interruptions to existing reporting and analytical processes.
  • Build summaries and visualizations to enable socialization and implementation of proposed solutions.
  • Collaborate with IT through providing business requirements, setting project timelines, and assisting in the validation of their IT solutions.
  • Perform ad hoc analyses for various business needs such as staging data for business unit reporting, automating audits of the same data across multiple data platforms, and creating dynamic BI visualizations for monthly business reviews.

  • MBA required
  • Expert / highly proficient in SQL (Teradata, Microsoft SQL Server), Power Pivot, and MS Access
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Tableau, Power BI, Oracle, and R
  • Certification/s in process improvement and/or process management (ex. Six Sigma Green Belt)
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Quick learner who is comfortable with learning new tools and databases
  • Ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams
  • Self-starter who is able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks to effectively meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • 3 or more years’ experience synthesizing large amounts of data and providing meaningful, insightful analyses to senior management
  • 3 or more years’ experience in corporate or business unit finance, involving responsibilities such as financial modeling, analysis of historical financial performance, and developing business cases
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English with proven ability to build trust and influence others
  • Certification/s in finance or financial analysis (ex. CFA, FRM)
  • Ability to actively engage and partner with various leadership team members to drive results
  • Process improvement experience a plus
  • Experience in training others a plus
