Position Summary:

The incumbent will have the ability to lead other service technicians, design solutions for difficult problems, will be able to manage outside contractors, to be on call for emergencies, have the ability to handle multiple projects and daily activities, and meet deadlines. 

 

WORK HOURS

12-hour work shift including a 15 minute a.m. break, 40 minute lunch break, and 15 minute p.m. break.  During peak times overtime will be scheduled.

 

EQUIPMENT & TOOLS UTILIZED

Conveyors, electrical motors, material handling equipment, golf cart, man-lift, hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, propane torch, electrical test equipment, grinders, skill saws, ladders.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Perform preventative and spontaneous maintenance on lift equipment jacks, chargers, and batteries

• Perform preventative and spontaneous maintenance on conveyors

• Perform general building maintenance including overhead doors, construction repair, roll carts, floor repair and second level gates, doors, etc.; perform light plumbing maintenance on occasion

• Perform various carpentry assignments as needed

• Ability to work at heights

• Use personal vehicle to pick up parts and equipment

• Regular attendance

• Work as a team member by interacting and communicating with fellow associates in a cooperative, constructive manner

• Relay directions from supervisor to junior technicians and assistants

• Use initiative to ensure efficient assignments of junior technicians/assistants to projects/tasks

• Order needed repair parts for equipment with supervisor’s approval

• Work safely and in accordance with Staples safety policies

 



Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Basic:

• High school education or equivalent – trade school background preferred

Basic English language skills (both verbal and written communications)

• Minimum two (2) years of related experience

• Strong electrical/electronic troubleshooting skills

• Mechanical aptitude, knowledge of hydraulics, electrical, pneumatics, and ability to read blueprints/schematics

• Material handling equipment certification

• Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem solving skills

• Ability to work overtime with little or no notice based on facility operational requirements

• Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot complex automated electrical control systems

• Ability to use vendor manuals and procedures to perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting tasks

• Ability to program logic devices

• Understanding of low voltage DC electrical systems

• Ability to work with high voltages (up to 480VAC) in troubleshooting and repair of motor control and lighting systems

• Ability to design and fabricate devices required to improve system operation or aid in equipment maintenance functions

• Proven excellent computer skills

• Proven excellent mechanical aptitude

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and accomplish work with little supervision

• Ability to lift 70 pounds to 100 pounds frequently

       Exposure to fumes from welding

       Exposure to dust from grinding

       Exposure to vibration from power tools

       Exposure to hot surfaces after welding
