Position Summary:
The Senior Data Analyst II, for Financial Planning & Analysis will be a key member of the North American Delivery finance team dedicated to providing analytical support and business insights for the $10B+ in revenue North American Delivery business. This role will work directly with the finance leaders across multiple business units at several locations to help drive deeper understandings of sales and margin trends and performance, as well as, ensure businesses are performing in line with short and long-term objectives. Analyses performed by this role will influence decisions impacting spend and strategy across multiple business units of the North American Delivery business.
 
Job Duties:
  • Work with leaders to prepare forecasts and budgets, and analyze Category Profitability Improvement and Vendor Program Agreements for all Staples Entities.
  • Review budget proposals and make forecasts for future budget needs. 
  • Manage weekly/monthly/annual financial processes pertaining to actual results, forecasted and budgeted expectations. Identify and explain variances on a regular basis.
  • Support forecasting and budgeting for recent acquisitions at Staples, and analyse their performance.
  • Perform tracking of routine period end close functionalities including but not limited to P&L consolidation, accrual tracking and reconciliation with general ledger.
  • Support G&A expense forecasting and budgeting.
  • Understand risk and opportunities to plans using sensitivity analysis and simulations.
  • Be adept at manipulating, analyzing and presenting findings around big, complex data set.
  • Partner with leadership to identify key business trends and provide supportive analytics that drive and influence business performance
  • Leverage technology-based forecasting techniques and visualization tools to provide business performance insights for Staples across U.S. and Canada.
  • Prepare robust and scalable models using advanced excel mathematical and financial functions.
  • Think analytically, be able to drill into the detail but understand its relevance to the big picture and disseminate key insights.
  • Train and support team members to use data visualization tools such as PowerBI.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Required

  •  Post-graduation management degree with a specialization in Business Analytics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance.
  • Knowledge of Advanced Finance, Accounting principles Data Analytics, Business Statistics, and Data Modeling.
  • 4-6 years of work experience, preferably in financial analysis, planning, forecasting and reporting.
  • 1 or more years’ experience synthesizing large amounts of data and providing meaningful, insightful analysis to senior management.
  • Expertise in Financial Modeling, Merger and Acquisitions.
  • Prior experience in leadership and innovation will be highly valued.
  • Organized, self-starter who can prioritize and manage multiple tasks to effectively meet deadlines and objectives in a changing environment
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to use data to make recommendations and drive decisions, relying on strong qualitative and quantitative skills
  • Driven intellectual curiosity to explore trends and variances to understand root cause.
  • Advanced capabilities of Microsoft Office products such as Excel and Access
  • Expertise in Microsoft PowerBI, Oracle Essbase and MicroStrategy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and must be comfortable interacting with and presenting to senior management
  • Ability to actively engage and partner with various leadership team members to drive results and provide needed analysis.
  • Prior experience with data analytic and forecasting tools such as R, Python, E-views forecasting.
