Job Summary
The Director of Software Development is responsible for business enablement, transformation, and modernization of SBA Canada. The Director will:

• Develop solutions with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and adherence to development goals and principles
• Drive e-commerce and backend systems engineering for SBA Canada, ensuring quality and scalability
• Build applications for e-commerce Transformation
• Modernize Order Management, Fulfilment and Supply Chain Systems
• Enable Business by building new capabilities, features and functionalities
• Partner with and influence stakeholders to promote automation, simplification, standardization and innovation, and to ensure risks are understood and minimized
• Direct the planning of short and long-term systems strategies while ensuring speed to market/lead time reduction for both new and existing products by marshalling the necessary resources across the organization
• Foster an innovative environment where teams build future generation systems while ensuring stability of the current application ecosystem
• Review annual program budgets and provides input to prioritization and determines the allocation of resources to group and systems efforts.
• Drive change management and engineering mindset while actively molding culture.
• Handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Support Customer Experience, Growth, and Profitability for SBA CA
• Build differentiating capabilities to create competitive edge - Create technical architecture and implementation for the entire stack
• Recruit high caliber talent into SDS to continuously raise the bar
• Maximize ROI on technology initiatives and programs
• Decide the best technical direction to ensure uninterrupted business operation
• In the case of a service interruption, is responsible for decision on how best to restore business functionality
• Leverage Cloud PaaS capabilities to accelerate development of new services
• Apply Machine Learning to enhance E-commerce experience
• Communicate with SDS VP+ to get buy-in on engineering approach
• Align with product and program teams to ensure seamless transition
• Hire top engineering talent the can build high performance applications
• Strong technical skills to hold on your own and conduct hands on technical deeps dives
• Strong technical, communication, and leadership skills to motivate and stretch teams
• Oversee responsibilities and performance of highly technical engineering team
• Conduct full performance appraisals and coaching/development for direct report
• Provide transformational leadership across the organization to ensure appropriate department alignment to achieve common goals
• Build a talent strategy and guides, mentors and coaches individuals and leaders
• Champion data-driven decision making and is passionate about improving the metrics of the business

QualificationsBasic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s in Computer Science (Masters, PhD preferred) from esteemed University in North America
• 10+ years of software engineering work experience, including 5+ years of hands-on technical management.
• AWS Certification Preferred
• Managing large teams (3+ Engineering Managers, 10+ associates)
• E-commerce Software Engineering (Website, and Backend End to End Systems)
• Cloud Application Development experience
• Ability to design Service Oriented Architecture
• Distributed Systems experience (Multi-threading, Concurrency)
• Strong knowledge of software operations, performance tuning, parallel processing, modularization, application code profiling tools and algorithmic analysis
• Strong object-oriented programming experience
• Experience with diagnostics, troubleshooting, debugging and continuous integration
• Experience developing large scale systems using parallel and distributed computing
• Lead software development lifecycle including concept, design, prototyping, integration, testing, and production release
• Expertise architecting and developing highly reliable, fault-tolerant distributed applications with focus on performance and scale

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bi-Lingual Preferred (English + French)
• Strong experience with agile engineering practices
• Expert programming skills developing back-end applications in NodeJS, Go, Python, Java, or Scala
• Expert at building microservices exposing REST APIs using frameworks such as Swagger/OpenAPI, App Service/Azure
• Strong scripting skills in a Linux/Unix environment (e.g.: Bash, Python, Perl)
• Expertise working with RDBMS and NoSQL data stores on-premise and in the Cloud (e.g.: SQL Server/Azure, PostgreSQL/Azure, MongoDB, Cassandra, Cosmos DB/Azure, DynamoDB/AWS, Redshift/AWS, Teradata, Oracle)
• Expertise applying best practices in the areas of Configuration Management, Automation, Continuous Integration & Deployment, and Monitoring using frameworks like Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Terraform, Jenkins and platform services in the Cloud
• Experience with performance analysis and debugging of Java applications or services at scale (e.g. JConsole, VisualVM)
• Experience working with data processing frameworks (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) a plus
• Knowledge of Spring and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Data, Spring Security) is a plus.
• Experience in a production development environment, preferably with exposure to Order Management, CRM, or Warehouse Management systems
