Description
Position Summary: 
The Leave Specialist will be primarily focused on leaves of absence (FMLA and non-FMLA), reasonable accommodation (ADA) and short-term disability. Also provides general benefits support to associates in support to the Benefit Strategy team. This role requires problem solving abilities applying business rules and objectives to escalated situations, communicating with all levels of the organization, as well as applicable vendors.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize LOA vendor’s absence management system to monitor associate’s leave status, as well as managing to the 6-month maximum leave dates.
  • Oversee multiple leave files at any given time, communicating with associates via telephone and /or letter regarding leave status and the reasonable accommodation process. 
  • Interact with vendor’s Leave or Disability Managers regularly on escalated leave issues. 
  • Respond to associate, manager or HR Business Partner inquiries surrounding the leave process. 
  • Document all interactive dialogues with associate. 
  • Partner with local manager to provide guidance and support with regards to leave policies/practices and ensure adherence to these policies. 
  • Review reasonable accommodation requests with local manager and coordinate next steps. 
  • Support HR Services escalated tickets for both Leaves and Benefit issues.
  • Managing the leave vendor process on behalf of associates on lost time workers compensation leaves. Reviewing W/C systems to update leave vendor on status of claim – utilizing both internal database and workers compensation database to update our information
  • Run the weekly reporting to managers for both concurrent and intermittent leaves.
  • Special projects as assigned to support process improvement.
  • Additional responsibilities as required to support Benefit Strategy team.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years of related work experience in benefits or leave administration
Essential Skills Required: 
  • Knowledge of ADA, FMLA and non-FMLA leaves of absence. General benefit knowledge a plus.
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to meet or exceed published service level standards.
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication abilities.
  • The ability to influence and collaborate with all levels of associates, both management and non-management.
