POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of EDM & Analytics will be responsible for providing Data & Analytical solutions to business partners.  This leader will drive efforts to curate business data assets and establish the foundation of a modern data warehouse while consolidating legacy data warehouses & data marts.  Hire, develop and build technical solution teams that focus on the needs of business partners by providing end to end capabilities.  

The Director will have overall responsibility for the stewardship and management of Staples’ enterprise data assets and services.  This leader will work closely with SDS executives to shape Staples Data warehouse short and long-term strategies and collaborate with key business and technology partners.  This role will require both managing staff that works in both the Engineering and Operations spaces, both transactional and analytical.  Responsible for executing the roadmap which requires highly effective leadership, project management, influencing and problem-solving skills to ensure major deliverables and milestones are met.  This role has the added responsibility of ownership of multiple database platforms including Teradata, SQL Server, Oracle, and support for the Staples Business intelligence platforms.   

The individual will also participate in design discussions, code reviews, and architecture reviews and will work closely with the rest of the Engineering, BI, and Finance teams to hone requirements, respond to ad-hoc requests, and build sustainable solutions. The director will communicate clearly across technical and business teams about data issues. This leader will oversee ETL processes, alerting, and general data quality.  The leader will evaluate and implement new technologies that make it easier to accomplish all of the above.  As a data strategy champion, this role is expected to lead the shared services team with a passion for solving complex data analysis problems and delivering best-fit solutions

RESPONSIBILITIES SPECIFIC TO ROLE:

  • Responsible for shaping the data strategy and executing on the roadmap
  • Nurture talent and foster innovation in the team & broader organization
  • Scope includes financial & risk management for respective cost centers
  • Champion the use of technology & newer tools to optimize solutions and continuous process improvements
  • Assist in reduction of total cost of ownership of current technology stack
  • Keep abreast of the developments in the field to support and achieve our business objectives
  • Responsible for building rapport and trusted partnerships with a variety of vendor partners.  This include Software vendors, System integrators, Offshore vendors, etc.
  • Develop/acquire right talent, motivate to maintain a high performing team
  • Combination of Mid to Long Term strategy for Enterprise Data & Analytics organization
  • Advise and assist business partners with their analytical needs to execute their strategy


Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Math, or related fields; Master’s degree is desirable 
  • Prefer business degree (MBA)
  • 10+ years of management experience in a technology organization with a strong track record of building and leading high-performing teams
  • 10+ years of hands-on database engineering 
  • 10+ years of data warehousing and ETL tools 
  • 5+ years managing database operations teams 
  • 15-18 years of progressively responsible experience in information technology
  • Advanced Database/Data Architecture knowledge and skills including proven experience with designing dimensional data models
  • Strong knowledge of Hadoop/Big Data & Hybrid architectures
  • Highly skills in various Project methodologies – Agile, Iterative & Waterfall
  • Experience running data governance, cleansing and standardization initiatives
  • Advanced knowledge of customer lifecycle management, CRM, campaign management systems
  • Demonstrated passion for advanced data analysis, strong experience with relational databases, SQL, and proficiency using analytic tools to answer business questions

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Project/Program Management experience; PMP certification preferred
  • Cloud Experience
  • Proficiency in Data Warehouse & BI Analytics
  • Experience in Retail, E-Commerce business functions
  • SAFe Agile experience
  • Experience with data science including Python and R
