PURPOSE OF JOB


The Sales Manager, Business Development (SM) is responsible for managing a sales team of business developers and developing and executing a business plan for Small, Mid-Market, and Large Market Account sales within their assigned district. Activities include recruiting and hiring, territory and coverage model development and assignment, coaching and developing business developers in field, during live sales calls, and in formal sales activities such as weekly call days and qualification days, as well as prospecting and targeting strategies. The SM identifies, recruits, interviews, manages, coaches, develops and performance manages assigned Business Development Managers (BDMs).

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Recruit, train, develop, and performance manage BDMs.
  • Develop and execute sales plans for Small, Large and Mid-Market Accounts within a designated area
  • Develop relationships at the executive level with key prospect accounts
  • Participate in sales calls, meetings and business reviews to provide support for accounts as needed
  • Lead and facilitate Staples Way sales methodology, weekly call days, and weekly qualification days.
  • Achieve conversion targets in new Large, Mid, and Small-Market Accounts Achieve product mix targets based on account potential
  • Works with Regional Sales Director and Vice-President, Commercial and Inside Sales, to ensure key metrics and objectives are met.
  • Develop creative sales strategies and tools to increase new account success.
  • Provides guidance on objectives through clear, effective, timely, and constructive feedback to employees.
  • Manages and provides leadership including training, work assignments, and performance evaluations.
  • Monitors and reviews progress on a regular basis.
  • Ensures business developers leverage and utilize SFDC.com for all sales process such as opportunity and funnel management, suspect and prospect qualification, new account checklists, and other related tools.
  • Interaction with Operations to represent customer/field issues as part of the resolution process.
  • Intense focus on coaching, recognition and performance management interaction with Sales Representatives.

  • Ability to coach, performance manage, lead, motivate, and manage for results Ability to interface at the most senior levels at a customer

  • Demonstrates consultative selling skills

  • Computer literacy, including above average competency in Salesforce.com or similar CRM tool, Excel, Word, Outlook & PowerPoint

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Experience:

  • Successful business development experience required.
  • Office product industry experience helpful, distribution selling environment required.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of coaching and development, and the sales planning process.
  • Experience coaching for results, good organizational skills and demonstrated positive leadership style.
  • Creative selling, project management skills and strategic planning ability required. 

Education - Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three (3) years to five (5) years sales management experience preferred.
