  • Manages the workload of reports by training, monitoring, and giving clear direction on all projects and timelines for assigned account(s). 
  • Initiates the need for change in policies and procedures and identifies opportunities for improvement in current processes.
  • Adopts new processes/techniques for customer presentations in order to ensure the best customer experience. Encourages positive morale, teamwork and communication within the department.
  • Liaison with Account Services Team to ensure Catalog programs meets all timelines and expectations of customers. Attend Business reviews, strategy meetings, tradeshows and related customer meetings to provide direction on Merchandise direction.
  • Assist in forecasting of items by utilizing their expertise in product sourcing. 
  • Stay current with publications, attends shows and consult with product development, marketing, production, and sales representatives.

  • Position is to manage a group of client merchandise programs -develop and execute products for the Clients Programs as assigned. Product knowledge and production experience is a must. This position may manage others in the Merchandising Department at lower levels or have a very large book of business with full responsibility. They have effective idea generation and product sourcing knowledge to meet the needs of their clients. This position will have involvement to work directly with the customer. This position must stand out as a leader by proactively assisting others with solutions/issues/requests for information. This position may report to a Strategic Merchandiser or the AVP of Merchandising.
  • Influences the perception of SPP with product ideas that are distributed and shared with the SPP Customers.
  • Provides input to execute trend reports and idea-generating collateral, in partnership with Corporate Merchandising and Creative Teams to gain and maintain SPP customers.
  • Attends strategy meetings, tradeshows and related customer meetings to present merchandise assortment or provide direction.
  • Assists in account review of program and forecasting of items by utilizing their expertise in product.
  • Displays a positive attitude, teamwork and communication within the department and entire organization.
Innovation and Change (i.e. improvements to procedures, services, or products, as well as development of new ideas, methods, techniques, services and products)
  • Executes new processes/techniques for new and existing customer presentations in order to ensure the best customer experience. Travels to Customer locations for various Sales/Program needs.
  • Participates in discussions around opportunities for Merchandising and Special Order Teams to ensure new products and ideas are shared across product experts.
  • Key contact for product vendors. Collaborates with vendors in order to obtain product and trend information that supports SPP goals.
  • Conducts research/ comparison of relevant industry competitors to ensure we are staying current.
  • Internal & External Customers / Suppliers as well as Third Parties (i.e. include level or job title of customer relationship and the nature of the customer relationship management and service delivery)
  • May assist with training to educate internal teams.
  • Increases knowledge and understanding of new and existing customer needs by partnering with Business Development, Sales, Marketing, Merchandising and Account Services Teams.
  • Ability to communicate and present with a high degree of professionalism with both internal and external audiences.
People Leadership (i.e. staff management; accountability for hiring, coaching, training, conducting performance review, determining pay actions)
  • This position could manage Merchandisers, Associate Merchandisers, and (Sr.) Merch Assistants. The primary function is to source projects for New or Existing Program Customers through understanding the customer’s needs and have effective idea generation and product sourcing knowledge to meet the business opportunity. 
  • May assist with interviewing and giving reviews with the support of the Strategic Merchandiser.
  • Business Strategy (if contributes to business strategy; is position responsible for defining, modifying or executing and is focus on long term (typically 3-5 years) or short- to mid-term (12-18 months)) 
  • Develops product ideas that represent SPPs expertise and creativity.

KPIs– Key Performance Indicators (i.e. how is success defined in this role?)
  • Increase sales and present product ideas and trends from Staples Promotional Product’s preferred vendors that our Clients like.
  • Execute product ideas on time, on brand and determines the success of program items.


Education/Experience Equivalent (minimum requirements)

  • Bachelors Degree, Merchandising Degree preferred
  • 4-6 Years relevant work experience in product marketing, merchandising or related field. 
  • Experience planning, managing and executing successful product ideas that impact business goals.

Professional Knowledge/Experience

  • Well developed “business” communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of internal and external stakeholders and support functions.
  • Well developed presentation skills and experience presenting to large groups. Possess professional acumen and skills in salesmanship.
  • Well developed ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously and meet required deadlines.
  • Qualified management, mentoring, and training skills are a plus.
  • Well developed ability to multi task and prioritize under pressure. Must demonstrate good judgment in all aspects of “strategic business sense” pro-active ideation and analytical skills.
  • Requires a self-motivated and energetic personality.
  • Flexibility to travel when necessary based on account needs.
  • Solid PC skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide product recommendations that support the overarching strategy of a business.
  • Strong knowledge of product merchandising, industry trends and regulations. 
  • Knowledge and ability to leverage internal resources and relationships in order to independently move projects to completion.

  • Well developed verbal and written communication skills 
  • Must have a passion for Retail shopping and merchandise
  • Understands trends for every industry that impacts the promotional product business. Shows eagerness and excitement to stay in front of these trends
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including PowerPoint and Excel
  • Strong problem solving skill
  • Social media knowledge a plus
