Position Summary:

Establish and maintain an environment to support and strengthen our Staples brand. This person is responsible for helping the GM create a culture focused on the differentiated customer experience through building a best in class team and delivering profitable sales and margin. The AGM also assists the GM with the day to day management functions including: scheduling, training, planograms and operational excellence.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Establishes models and reinforces Staples Signature Experience through proper engagement and selling techniques in order to achieve or exceed financial goals
  • Drive revenue by ensuring the store team is providing customers with outstanding customer service, helpful product knowledge, building individual customer relationships and incorporating the Omni-Channel experience into  customer interactions to meet their needs
  • Manages the essential day to day operational tasks; prioritizes workloads and maximizes productivity
  • Interviews, hires, and on boards new supervisors and associates setting the standard from day one through effective preparation of schedules and training
  • Ensure optimum sales floor coverage and effective execution of the Manager on Duty process by creating schedules that meet the needs of the business
  • Assists in conducting weekly business rhythm meetings with supervisors
  • Ensure customer readiness standards at all times; deliver a clean, neat and easy to shop store environment
  • Supervise, support and develop supervisors, and associates through utilization of company career development programs; establish succession plan
  • Create and maintain a training plan ensuring all associate e-learnings are completed on a timely basis without sacrificing customer service
  • Motivate and recognize associates through Staples’ Rewards Programs; holds associates accountable to performance expectations
  • Review and utilize scorecards and other reports; works with GM to implement action plans focusing on deficient areas; develop and communicate strategies to improve results
  • Understands and manages the store financial performance utilizing Profit & Loss statements

Other Functions:

  • Follow management direction in completing other duties as required
  • Flexibility to work in another location depending on the company’s business needs


Basic skills required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3-5 years leading a team in a retail or service environment

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field
  • Passion for technology, production, and office solutions
  • Experience in selling to small businesses in a Retail or Service environment
  • Ability to network and build community involvement
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
  • Experience and confidence leading a team of consultative selling
  • Ability to coach a diverse team of individuals and hold them accountable for results
  • Excellent verbal skills and written communication
