About the role
We are looking for a UX Architect to help us create amazing user experiences. The ideal candidate will have an eye for clean and compelling designs, feel comfortable translating high-level requirements into interaction flows and transform them into clean, intuitive wireframes. The ideal candidate for this position will have a grounding in information architecture and in interactive design. He or she must be able to create, produce and refine ideas and be able to architect and communicated the experience clearly to a wide and varied audience. 

At Staples, you will have the opportunity to apply your UX design skills to multiple projects with a focus on creative problem solving, tackling complex user experience problems and execution of interaction patterns across mobile and desktop devices. You will work closely with other members of the User Experience team including the UI designers and UX Researcher. 

As an integral part of the UX team you will be working on projects supporting Staples.com, Staples Business Advantage, and mobile web/applications. This role is based out of the Framingham, MA Headquarters.

Primary Responsibilities: 
  • Collaborate with UX, product management, engineering and marketing to help define and implement innovative solutions for the customer experiences. 
  • Participate in and at times facilitate user experience definition sessions that include leading cross functional team members through white boarding sessions and brainstorms. 
  • Identify key user-interaction requirements during white board sessions and/or competitive research. 
  • Help to identify important issues that may require further user research by collaborating with UX Research resources. 
  • Architect user interaction solutions/scheme designs based on sound user experience principle, research and technical feasibility. 
  • Design solution deliverables include (but are not limited to): Sitemaps, architecture maps, user flows, thumbnail flows, flat and interactive wireframes.
  • Partner with User Researcher on research plans and integrate findings into the design process through an iterative process. 
  • As needed, perform competitive benchmarks, audits and expert reviews. 
  • Balance multiple projects concurrently with a high degree of organization and execution.
  • Ensure consistent experiences across multiple features to align directly with business requirements. 
  • Promote and contribute to the establishment of interaction guidelines, best practices and standards.  
  • Present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and product team stakeholders. 
  • Remain up-to-date with the latest UI/UX trends, techniques, and technologies. 

Qualifications


Basic skills:

  • 1-3 years of professional experience designing for interactive online experiences, including web and mobile experience. eCommerce experience is a plus
  • A portfolio that demonstrates a range of work, including engaging, compelling user experience perspective, and clean aesthetic
  • Proficiency in Sketch & Axure and related tools
  • Attention to Detail is a must
  • Experience with designing & prototyping wireframes
  • A strong understanding of user experience design & design principles – information hierarchy
  • Experience building and evolving a brand for an eCommerce company


Preferred skills:

  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process
  • Experience with responsive design methods and development of design interactions and material design
  • BS/MS in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Visual Design or a related field
  • ADA (American Disability Acts)/Section 508 Compliance design experience
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Javascript
  • Experience working with design systems & interaction patterns
  • eCommerce & Mobile skills preferred
  • Attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills 
  • Self-motivation to manage workload, timelines, and expectations of multiple projects with cross-functional teams
  • Above all, must have a great sense of humor as well as a sense of urgency
